Pets are not the norm among Attovian laymen. The rich and powerful often keep all kinds of pets such as Kaktaa, Cirpi, Pechi and Karva to name a few of the more tame examples. This does not mean that animal companionship is non-existent for the common folk, but it is typically transactional in some regard. Karva are kept for their fur to be sold, Nopine are taken care of to be mounts of great speed, Sika are kept for their strange milk and subsequent cheese (and are quite affectionate creatures, often bonding to owners quickly and strongly). In the Goweh the many Ankans there keep Skitterlings for pest control and companionship, though the creatures terrify most surface dwellers. It is not a lonely world in regards to the presence of animals, but it is a practical and utilitarian one with just a bit of room for powerful bonds.
