Tuim sprout from a single base usually in groups of 5 or more long bending stalks that terminate in a large, round, flat leaf that looks much like an upside down bowl. It reproduces by forming spores on the underside of this leaf often called the tum tum thanks to the sound particularly large Tuim leaves make when hit with small sticks. The spores have a natural numbing agent and are used topically as a primitive anesthetic. Tuim is a popular ingredient for Apothecaries and herbalists in general.
