Microscopic zooplankton that thrive almost exclusively in the ocean waters of the Giravian Archipelago. Rin produce a small golden bioluminescent glow that can often be seen at night especially during Lilkerin. Rin can be cultivated easily near their natural habitat if kept in a clear vessel with plenty of ocean water. If provided with kelp and seagrass the Rin will grow and fill the vessel and its glow will strengthen. This is usually done inside of an open Toqume by the Girav gel and is then used for light, or painted onto the skin for a temporary but stunning effect. Many Girav gel adorn themselves with personal Rin Shine as a way of expressing different current emotions. Rin Shine painted onto the brow exemplifies one is lost in thought and seeks not to be disturbed. Rin Shine painted onto the wrists is meant to symbolize a sorrow in need of comfort. There are an unknown number of such expressions and it seems that Giravian tribes often have different interpretations or entirely different sets of these symbols and meanings.
The Rin Shine Fad
Someone, somewhere got ahold of a Toqume full of Rin and carefully ported it to Ornsiire where they sell small quantities of it to the upper class who have ravenously taken to augmenting their escalating outrageous outfits with the beautiful glow.
