Skitterlings are long arthropods roughly the width of the average Human with a top shell like carapace that covers most of their numerous legs. Always coming in odd numbers of pairs they generally have anywhere from 9 to 19 pairs of legs each which take up their own individual segment. At the longest they can stretch nearly 20 feet from head to tail and weigh as much as fifty average humans. The Skitterling underneath the thick top carapace is largely faceless, featuring a set of mandibles built rip and tear at food before small leg like appendages around the mouth work the morsels into its mouth proper. No eyes are immediately visible and actually reside under portions of translucent carapace on each segment meaning more segments correlates directly to more eyes. The eyes of Skitterlings are simplistic and sense changes in light and large scale movement and their primary sense is via scent. Nearly microscopic antennae cover their carapace and legs giving them a kind of three dimensional image of the chemicals and flow of the air that surrounds them. This strange gift of nature means most Skitterlings can sense subtle movements from entities at great distance before their primitive eyes would catch your hand coming in to touch them directly.

Though they primarily make their home in the Goweh their occasional surfacing has led to their colloquial name above the Goweh. When they do surface they tend to terrorize the people of Attovia unintentionally going on perceived rampages where they tend to bump into things and break infrastructure in a light sensitivity panic. The Ankans who often keep them as pets refer to them as Kavajantu and almost every Yoddha has one at their side. In fact if an Ankan is not Yoddha it is a great honor to be given a Skitterling to raise or even better as a life companion. Though their exterior is rough and frightening to many, they are surprisingly emotional creatures and attach strongly to individuals being capable of sensing even the slightest changes in mood, health and attitude.

Skitterlings also make for fantastic pest control as they are skilled hunters who rarely target creatures much larger than a Kaktaa. They keep many annoying Great Mites and other pesky Goweh dwellers from overrunning the halls and societies of the Ankans deep beneath the earth. Skitterling feces is also used extensively as a binding agent to increase the strength of Ankan Thread Structures especially their supporting strands. It appears to bond exceptionally well with spider silk and can ensure the rock wall the thread is attached to fails before its connection.
