When a young girl dresses river water with Petra Leaves, the feathers of a Cirpi and assorted grasses she often claims she is making a “Potion” and may attempt to get a loved one or really any close by individual to drink her wonderful concoction. Though not poisonous or harmful in anyway the combination of ingredients makes for a uncomfortably earthy taste and smell and an amiable adult will often tilt their head back with great exaggeration and pretend to quaff the substance as they spill it on the ground behind them. Should they take a sip they will almost certainly regret the lingering metallic flavor of the Petra bush and are likely to go find a discrete way to wash it away. Their Soul is tied to an unknow Tether referred to in A Taxonomy of Workers, Workings and Tethers as the Apothecary’s Gift. It grants a kind of inspired intuition and Meyda Intercession which enables the individual to conduct Meyda-work through the art of mixing ingredients. It baffles Wizards thanks to the common inconsistencies in the highly functional recipes written by different Apothecaries. Even more frustrating is that upon displaying this inconsistency to the outliers they simply adjust their recipe to match the fellow gifted individuals and it continues to work just as well or better. Apothecary’s often struggle with the precise lines of the modern Workings in The Crystal Tomes generally struggling to make even the most basic Cleanse Water Working conduct.
Creation of recipes is not easy however. Each must come into existence from a place of an Apothecary’s supposed understanding. Petra leaves represent vitality and strength, Cirpi represent health and freedom, and the grasses of the field are seen as hearty and long suffering. This informs a potion of improved health often resulting in quickened healing the rapid recovery over an illness, and even bulking up of muscle mass. If these things are not convincing to an Apothecary they will not create the recipe, and even if they did so, it would likely function poorly if at all.
