The Treloss require water to function same as any living organism on Pafsitos or the Axiom. Pafsitos holds no natural water source but unlike the Water Exousers Yami has opted for a very different solution to this problem. The Efsi is hemisphere entirely below ground level, being roughly 3 miles in diameter at its base it has a volume just over 1 trillion cubic feet. This singular source, when even slightly full can serve water to all Treloss forces for huge spans of time without refill. But where could such an abundant water source be found? There isn’t enough ambient water in half of Pafsitos’ Atmosphere that could fill such a colossal basin. Instead Yami constructed a unique source of his own.
Efsi is a society. It is a number of small, submerged cities in which highly specialized Treloss live out slow tribal lives under the surface of a fluid born of their sacrifice. These people are kept in complete intellectual darkness, believing their world is made up entirely by the hemisphere they exist in. Yami’s direct intervention in their lives keeps them in a fervent state of worship and belief in a deity who seeks only their absolute resolve and obedience. A single great Exouse is encoded into the very being of these strange aquatic Treloss, it converts both their Material and Extramaterial substances into water. That is: The potency of the Soul and a direct conversion of meat and bone to H2O. To make the most of their potential they are asked to “worship” and pray to Yami daily. Such acts constitute the use of one of 10 Exouse Patterns each increases in its complexity and a Treloss of the Efsi makes it their entire life goal to reach the “Tenth Pattern”. Upon doing so they will be immediately subsumed into the surrounding water, increasing the volume of the water in Efsi by nearly a 1,000,000 cubic feet. For those who do not meet the pattern metrics early on in life the task of daily life, and maintenance of culture is given. These are the elders who maintain the memory of the Ten Patterns, the Fafyki farmers and the conductors of the Tenth Pattern ceremony.
In the space of the Efsi there are nearly a million Treloss living out their purpose-built existence. Of those million, roughly six thousand give themselves to the water of the Efsi a day. Thanks to large spawning rates and the rapid lifecycle of the Treloss here this is a very manageable rate of death. This along with 3 additional Efsi all of which maintain this average meets the roughly 150-180 billion gallon a day requirements of Yami’s armies in the Skote.
