Any city or town in the Home-of-safety-high is filled with many a Furry-friend-of-flight. Roughly fitting in the palm of a Nimble-of-the-sky’s hand these winged rodents are seen as a symbol of loyalty and freedom. They are quadrupedal with a pair of long fuzzy wings that when folded across the back stretch about another bodies length behind their stubby tails. They have a remarkable wingspan of several feet which dwarfs the length of their own bodies, but is required to give them enough lift. Two small black eyes face forward and are used to find food, socialize, and generally navigate. Two additional proto-eye organs on the top of the head are sensitive to tiny changes in light and help the Furry-friend-of-flight watch out for its only true predator the Floating-assassin. While many things would like to eat the Furry-friend-of-flight doing so is nearly impossible without a significant advantage thanks to the sensitive hairs in the Furry-friend-of-flight’s wings. These hairs pickup vibrations in the air and provide the Furry-friend-of-flight with a keen sense of its surroundings.
While Furry-friend-of-flights are technically omnivores, when in the wild, they will almost exclusively eat Crystal-grass wherever it might be found. This makes them easy to care for even for small children and they are often used to teach young Nimble-of-the-sky some responsibility. Even more importantly a Furry-friend-of-flight bonds quickly with its caretaker and will imprint quickly, harking only to the beaconing of its chosen master. This lifespan usually lasts around 5 years before the Furry-friend-of-flight dies. Generally in that time it will have had at least 5 litters of 4 or more babies. Interestingly enough though they are considered a cultural symbol of loyalty they do not mate for life, instead having fleeting relations in the air before returning to bear children. All Furry-friend-of-flights have both sexes genitalia in their bodies and can thus procreate twice as effectively which is useful considering their only yearly cycle of fertility.
Sometimes called Furry-friend-of-flop thanks to the comical way they appear to bounce and flop in flight. The Furry-friend-of-flight’s strong name is taught to most Nimble-of-the-sky around their 7th year once they have many front names to associate with other Furry-friend-of-flights they would have encountered by that point.
