The Neyna is a subset of annual and biennial herbaceous plants with Rhizomatous root structures that can cover substantial range. A single Neyna plant can seemingly replicate rapidly by producing shoots at regular intervals which create new above ground vegetation. Though sometimes a nuisance in a garden thanks to its habit of taking over swaths of soil Neyna is better known for its roots by their sugary sweetness. Dried Neyna root is a popular snack among children for its chewy texture and surprising level of natural sweetness.
Demand for Neyna exploded during the early years of the Shen Dynasty after Xībaos gained popularity and the baking world began to see an explosion in experimentation. One of these avenues was a shift in focus from savory to sweet goods. The confectionary boom that resulted drove the price of Neyna astronomically high for a short time later dubbed the Neyna Sprint in which nearly everyone began to grow the plant thanks to the ease of cultivation. It didn’t take long for the surge in supply to outstrip the demand nearly tenfold and the Neyna market stabilized to roughly what it is today.
