The Necessity of Workings in War - Percival Thornfallow
I wish to put aside concerns I see my students often bring forward questioning the ethical ramifications of our instruction at the Zyclest University, more specifically, the continued training of War-workers and the price of utilizing the awesome power of Meyda for conquest and battle. Such a question tends to disrupt my good humor until I remember its source’s naiveté. What is war? My return question is always this. I receive countless answers, all of them wrong. War is nothing but the inevitable growing pains of an aging world. Under this premise, what greater responsibility do we have than to prepare for an outcome that history states will always come. Should we turn our resources to production of grains and textiles like the Helvans? What then do we do with such an allotment when it is swept away by invasion? Instead, our superiority is a two stage wall of protection. The strongest economy absorbs high volumes of Helvan exports which are stored long term via Workings we developed ourselves. We export Spider Silk instead as trade, reducing the incentive for other competing nations to invest in the same infrastructure. When we one day meet these people in the tide of war we shall have grand stores, superior resources and most of all a military which is backed by the most intelligent Wizards the continent has to offer. When the battlefield swims in blood, you will be thankful that most of it, is not yours.
