Every Tri-hundred-turns The-government-of-steel mandates festivities known as A-year-to-thank. The date of the festivities is not consistent, and seems to fall most often on the Gifted-day of the The-piece-above-all. During A-year-to-thank each household is expected to offer The-great-metal-token at Mechanical Shrines. The shrine dictates the quantity expected and while it is “legal” to give less than or none of the recommended amount, most of the population understands that much of life under The-government-of-steel can be much harder if the proper offering is shirked one too many times.

The origins of A-year-to-thank are known to only The-steel-archives and the Pieces-rising-up. Once a way for communities to encourage charitable acts it was converted to its modern form by the second ever holder of The-piece-above-all title.
