Though exceedingly rare Soul Displacement should not be taken lightly. Thankfully there is no known way for Soul Displacement to occur without very intentional outside interference. Instead one would have to conduct a failed or specific Auto-Necromancy Working or be the subject of another’s similar Working. Soul Displacement is defined by the decoupling of a Soul and its Ogen by relatively any means which has immediate and often irrevocable consequences. A displaced Soul immediately gets absorbed by the closest mass of Meyda whether that is a nearby God Stone, the World Stone itself, or a much more potent Soul in very close proximity. Each has differing consequences that depend on the Tethers of the Soul in question. Being absorbed by a God Stone usually deconstructs the Soul entirely unless the Soul is Tethered to an Olam Beyn. In such a case the Soul maintains its shape thanks to the impressed image of a mind that an Olam Beyn can provide. Being absorbed by the World Stone often means a Ghost of the individual arrives in a potentially random Luumara unless, once again, they are Tethered to a deity of some kind which might drive them effectively to the afterlife, but without the manifestation of their body in the Material World which Bara Levatel traditionally encodes into the Soul after death. The Olam Beyn refer to these as Soul Shadows and at times, if benevolent, will give them bodies built of Meyda to retain a semblance of the physical body they were used to. The worst option is the absorption of one Soul into another. The joining of two Souls inevitably wreaks havoc on the psyche of both, and can result in the total destruction of one, and long term damage to the other. The bodies original Soul will tussle with the mind of its new resident causing many hallucinations, nightmares, sleep walking and in cases in which a more potent Soul is displaced into the body of one less potent the control of the body may be taken over entirely by the new Soul. There is no option in this scenario that results in a happy ending for either of the sapient individuals involved and only three records of this ever occurring have been documented. Each is a tragedy.
Clarifications and Edge Cases
God Stone Ogens
It is possible to emulate the function of an Ogen within a God Stone so that a Soul absorbed by it is not subsumed in its entirety. This results additionally in a more solid Soul Shadow concept where the Soul’s impression of its Material World body is retained heavily including whatever it was wearing and had on its person last. Such a process can be used to carefully transfer a sapient mind from a Material body to a Extramaterial one and then safely back, but if left as a Soul Shadow for too long similar mental struggles will soon occur. Any realization to the fact that nothing about their “physical” form is truth in the Extramaterial World causes the Soul to rapidly devolve into insanity and transfers should not last longer than three Attovian days.
Malevolent Tethers
It is possible to have an unknown Tether to a much more sinister deity who may play with your Soul upon its displacement. Such entities often hunger for displaced Souls, feeding off of the Meyda they provide directly. Thankfully they are rarely fed.
