The taxonomy of Attovia has very steadily inclined since the start of the Age of Nations but while it increases in count it has stagnated in its complexity for centuries. There are three tiers of classification which even current intellectuals agree do a poor job of classifying the true diversity of their dynamic continent. Those tiers are the Materihel, Kiyuhel and Hofahel.
Materihel is the most nebulous, being defined by general agreement as to how much the thing being categorized should be considered to exist within the material or extramaterial world. The vast majority of entities placed within Attovian taxonomy are material creatures thanks simply to the fact that those categorizing them are material creatures as well; privy to a very limited scope of view into the extramaterial world.
Kiyuhel is one that has taken on contention on more than one occasion and attempts to catalog creatures based upon what god created them. The general catch all would be Hormus but it is believed oral histories and analysis of the Common Tether can tell an observer more accurately which deity created a given creature.
Hofahel is the most obvious and relies most strictly upon the consistent appearance and features of the being in question. While the two higher categories have a static number of options the Hofahel category grows with each new creature categorized within it. There is much academic discussion currently around standardizing Hofahel instead of the current method which is to use the Zoherian name.
Put together this system can be used in full to define a creature like so: Nopine of Trebulance of the Material. That is Hofahel of Kiyuhel of Materihel.
