To the few who ever learn of Kraken Spawn there is some confusion during their description. The largely immaterial creatures have no visual relation to a great multi-armed creature of the deep ocean. Instead their name comes from a connection to ancient mythology of The Great Conflict. During the midpoint of their fighting Graskoroth shattered a portion of his Soul leaving in each a single directive: Go to the world above and learn of the ways of Hormus creations.

Kraken Spawn latch onto the Souls of sentient creatures and create a Forced Contract of Focus with the individual’s Soul. It then feeds off of the Tether which results incorporating a kind of deep Soul Memory within themselves. Kraken Spawn do not leave their current host unless forced out via Meyda-work, usually that of Divine origin, or after the host’s death. Once detached from the host the Kraken Spawn immediately begins seeking a new host largely indiscriminately, though never attaching to the Souls of natural entities such as Nephesh and their progenitors or simplistic False Souls.

Unfortunately for Graskoroth a method was quickly discovered by the Wizards of the Crystal Guard by which Kraken Spawn could be forcibly extracted and captured from their hosts. The original method by which this was done often damaged the host significantly but in order for the Crystal Guard to continue in their work uninterrupted sacrifices were often made.

Modern Understanding

The progress of False Souls enabled new methods by which Kraken Spawn could be diverted entirely into a target Minor Stone before it discovers a host by creating a False Soul with definitions more preferable. During the current era maybe only a dozen Kraken Spawn have been discovered the rest either having returned to their origin, were captured, or even destroyed during the eras prior. It is believed that if a method of Soul Memory extraction could be invented, accurate visions of the past might be discovered in the few Kraken Spawn still held.

Dragon Symbiosis

Apparently the Dragons discovered a method by which they could control the Contract which ties a Kraken Spawn to their Soul. By manipulating the Contract they form a symbiotic relationship in which they feed the Kraken Spawn via a Tether from a controlled source. They have largely been able to reverse the connection to the Kraken Spawn’s consumed Soul Memories and use of it to learn of the past. Blood Dragons, the most versed in True Necromancy purport to have found a way to link their current Tethers retroactively to a Kraken Spawn and thereby continue to glean information about those who previously made Contracts with them.
