Hurry the Heart

Curiously this odd practice long predates the modern theory of the Ogen and its existence is perhaps responsible for the discovery in the first place. Its historical origins have yet to be determined but any researcher or Wizard who could accurately prove such would gain immediate and great renown. Hurry the Heart refers to the act of removing the heart from a recently dead corpse and burning it as quickly as possible. The reasoning behind this act is usually given through the telling of a fable known as Bara’s Last Call. Most of the laypeople of Attovia who participate or believe in this spiritual act reason that if it is done quickly enough Bara Levatel is never required to remove the individual’s Soul from the material world and they are instead immediately taken to their rightful place.

The timing varies community to community but most agree that if ten or more Praks have passed that there is no need and Bara has already carried them to the extramaterial world. There are occasionally arguments that arise in communities over the intricacies of this timeline, especially when strange circumstances surround the death and the body’s discovery. Some superstitions have cropped up recently with the rise in generalized knowledge as it pertains to Meyda-work and a number of new Circles have been devised by wise women and Minstrel Workers which claim to tell whether or not the Soul has departed. A Wizard of proper education can tell you those Circles have nothing to do with True Necromancy and are largely useless techniques peddled by charlatans and the ignorant, but the false security means their popularity continues.
