When a battle finishes on a Vedtir front it is the Stone Reclamation Squads turn to wallow in the mud and gore. Many would rather be in one of the high mortality rate battalions than continue to dig about in the battlefields aftermath.
Stone Reclamation Squads are usually around fifteen strong and are sent out the day following a rebuffed raid of True Monsters. Each member carries a large empty sack that they must fill with Monster Stones before returning. Though True Monsters decompose quickly waiting a single day simply enriches the stench of rotting flesh both sentient and monstrous. Most Stone Reclamation Squad members have to riffle through the guts of countless Goblins and Trolls in order to find the stones. Injuries are unfortunately common, it is easy to miss the sword imbedded in the creatures torso, or step on a long-dead slave’s dagger. This along with the rotting, infested bodies means the most common death a Stone Reclaimer receives is that of slow, agonizing rot.
Purpose
This is the primary reason that slavery continues to be prolific in Beleg gúl: Each reclaimer pays for the little it requires to sustain themselves one hundred fold for each sack returned in full. The government profits immensely off the deaths of those who do battle with the living and the dead in Vedtir.
